State Senator Theresa Gavarone has expressed her support for Ohio's new Biennial Operating Budget. The budget is designed to promote fiscal responsibility while positively impacting various sectors across the state.

"This is a strong budget that will positively impact every corner of our state," stated Senator Gavarone. "From continuing our work in investing in our children’s education, to cutting taxes, and increasing safety services, this budget delivers."

The Senate and House have collaboratively resolved differences between their respective versions of the budget efficiently.

The operating budget includes significant funding for K-12 public schools, adding nearly a billion dollars more to previous investments. Schools showing academic improvement or rated highly by the Department of Education and Workforce will receive additional aid.

"I was very proud to support the historic investments in this biennium's budget," said Senator Gavarone. "Education is critical to the future of our state, and I'm pleased to see Ohio continuing the investment in our children's education."

Senate President Rob McColley emphasized performance in public schools: "We want all children to have the opportunity to reach their God-given potential."

Ohio's $60.23 billion balanced budget also provides over $1 billion in tax relief. This approach aims to boost economic growth by allowing residents more discretionary income.

"In this budget we are also continuing to make the State of Ohio an economic powerhouse," added Senator Gavarone.

The biennium budget allocates funds for medical residencies, addressing shortages in family medicine and psychiatry fields. "Ohio is in a mental health crisis," explained Senator Gavarone, emphasizing the need for more medical residencies.

The Legal Aid Fund receives $1 million per fiscal year for legal services aimed at economically disadvantaged individuals, including veterans and those affected by substance abuse issues.

Additionally, reforms allow local authorities on Lake Erie Islands more control over safety services funded by lodging taxes. "This budget grants local authorities in tourist areas more flexibility on public safety and infrastructure," noted Senator Gavarone.
