The Ohio House Pro-Life Caucus held its first meeting of the 136th General Assembly, marking the start of its efforts to promote pro-life policies in Ohio. State Representative Melanie Miller (R-Ashland) was appointed as Chair of the caucus, which includes 31 state representatives focused on protecting life, empowering women, and strengthening families.
"We are united in our commitment to be a voice for the voiceless and to build policies that affirm the dignity of every human life," said Chairwoman Melanie Miller. She emphasized her experience working with women facing unplanned pregnancies and expressed the caucus's dedication to providing compassion, support, and solutions.
The caucus outlined several goals: advocating for legislation that defends unborn life, promoting resources for pregnant women and new mothers, supporting family foundations, increasing awareness about pro-life policies, building coalitions with various organizations, and engaging youth in pro-life leadership.
In addition to legislative efforts, the caucus plans to host events before the Ohio March for Life and feature expert speakers on maternal health and adoption. They also aim to strengthen Pregnancy Care Centers across Ohio by fostering partnerships with community organizations.
Rep. Jim Hoops acknowledged the emotional nature of the issue but stressed the importance of supporting both unborn children and their mothers. "We are in this together and we must fight together. Life is just too precious," he stated.
The 31 members of the caucus represent districts throughout Ohio and include notable figures such as Rep. Mike Odioso (30), Rep. Jack Daniels (32), Rep. Josh Williams (44), among others.
The Ohio House Pro-Life Caucus aims to be a significant presence in the General Assembly, advocating for a culture that values motherhood, supports families, and protects vulnerable lives.
