The community of Perrysburg, Ohio, is set to honor the memory of US Army Private First Class Jerry Bockbrader with a highway dedication ceremony. The event will take place on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, at 9:00 a.m. at the Country Charm Shopping Center in Perrysburg.

Pfc. Jerry Bockbrader, a graduate of Perrysburg High School, was drafted into the Army on September 18, 1967. He was deployed to Vietnam on February 26, 1968, serving as a Light Weapons Infantryman with C Company, 2nd Battalion, 5th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division. He was killed in action on May 20, 1968—exactly 57 years before the upcoming dedication.

During his service, Pfc. Bockbrader received several commendations including the Combat Infantryman Badge and the Purple Heart Medal.

“Pfc. Bockbrader’s bravery and commitment to duty embody the very best of what it means to serve our country,” stated State Representative Haraz N. Ghanbari (R-Perrysburg), who proposed the legislation for naming the highway. “This small but meaningful gesture will help ensure that future generations remember his sacrifice and the sacrifices of all who served in Vietnam.”

The highway designation covers State Route 199 between West South Boundary Street and State Route 105 in Wood County and became effective on March 20, 2025.

The public is invited to attend this ceremony to pay tribute to Pfc. Bockbrader and honor all service members who lost their lives in Vietnam.
