State Representatives Jim Hoops and Phillip M. Robinson, Jr. have put forward a House Concurrent Resolution urging Congress to recognize the Buckeye Trail as a National Scenic Trail. This initiative coincides with the upcoming completion of the Buckeye National Scenic Trail Feasibility Study by the National Park Service, which will determine its eligibility for inclusion among National Scenic Trails.

If successful, the Buckeye Trail would become the 12th such trail in the United States and notably, the only one that spans an entire state in a circumferential route. Representative Hoops highlighted that "The Buckeye Trail’s 1,454 miles showcase and connect the natural beauty, vibrant communities, history, and cultural richness found in Ohio."

Representative Robinson emphasized that this designation would not only enhance connectivity and appreciation for Ohio's scenic beauty but also boost economic development. He stated, “This legislation demonstrates the interconnectivity and beauty in our state while also providing economic development opportunities and contributing to the health of communities that scenic trails bring to communities they connect.”

The Buckeye Trail was established in 1959 and stretches through 46 counties and 44 Ohio House Districts. It serves as a conduit for cultural exchange, historical exploration, and tourism-driven economic growth.
