State Representatives Roy Klopfenstein and Bob Peterson have reintroduced the Ag. Appreciation Act, initially presented during the 135th General Assembly. The legislation aims to establish specific agriculture-related days in state law.
The proposed act will officially recognize FFA Week during the last full week of February, 4-H Week ending on the second Saturday of March, Ohio Soil Health Week in the second full week of November, Stormwater Awareness Week in the first full week of October, Agriculture Day on March 21st, and Farmer’s Day on October 12th.
“These commemorative days will serve as a way to teach the next generation the importance of agriculture and encourage them to pursue careers in one of Ohio’s largest industries,” stated Klopfenstein.
Peterson added, “I am excited to honor and recognize Ohio’s Agriculture Industry on these special days and hope Ohioans will appreciate the food fiber and fuel produced by farmers every day.”
Agriculture holds a significant place in Ohio's economy, contributing over $100 billion annually and employing one out of seven residents. The state boasts more than 75,000 farms, with 90% being family-owned operations.
