Ohio Governor Mike DeWine has signed House Bill 81, which includes legislation to designate a memorial bridge and viaduct in Montpelier. State Representative Jim Hoops announced the signing of the bill, originally from the 135th General Assembly.
House Bill 458, incorporated into the main bill, was sponsored by Hoops. It designates the bridge over the St. Joseph River on State Route 107 as the “Gold and Blue Star Family Memorial Bridge.” According to Hoops, "The designation of this bridge linking State Route 107 with the Village of Montpelier will serve both as a tribute to Gold and Blue Star Families and as a beacon of awareness to motorists reminding us all of the costs we owe for freedom."
Additionally, the viaduct along the railroad tracks in Montpelier will be named the “POW/MIA Memorial Viaduct.” Hoops stated that "This designation will honor the valiance and bravery of former and current prisoners of war and those missing in action."
