State Representatives Roy Klopfenstein and Angie King have put forward a proposal to name a section of US Route 33 in Auglaize County after Lt. James A. Kirkendall. Lt. Kirkendall, an officer with the Ohio State Highway Patrol, lost his life while on duty on October 28, 1970. At the time of his passing, he was serving as the post commander at Post 81 in Van Wert.

Representative Klopfenstein expressed the importance of recognizing those who serve their communities, stating, "We must always remember and honor the sacrifices our first responders make for the safety of our communities." He added that naming the highway is a way to "honor his great legacy."

Representative King shared similar sentiments about the tribute, noting that it serves as a lasting reminder of Lt. Kirkendall's courage and service: "May this highway be a reminder to all who travel through Auglaize County of Lt. Kirkendall’s bravery and dedication to protecting his state."

The bill has not yet been assigned a number or referred to a House committee.
