Lt Gov Husted: 'Businesses and people are benefiting from TechCred'

Lt. Gov. Jon Husted announced the upcoming application window for the TechCred program in a December 11 post on X, stating, "The next TechCred application period opens January 2, 2025!"

"Thousands of Ohio employers like Spangler Candy have used #TechCred to upskill or reskill their workforce," said Husted, Lt. Governor. "The next TechCred application period opens January 2, 2025!"

TechCred is a workforce development initiative launched in Ohio in 2019. It aims to assist Ohio residents in enhancing their skills to thrive in a technology-driven economy. Business owners benefit from a more skilled workforce when they utilize the TechCred program to address job vacancies. The programs offered can be completed within a year or less, with many available online. According to the TechCred website, Ohio residents can earn certificates or certifications in fields such as robotics/automation, manufacturing technology, information technology, construction technology, military and smart transportation, Internet of Things (IoT) and cybersecurity, healthcare technology, or business technology.

According to Niki Mosier, Vice President of Human Capital at Spangler Candy, one of the businesses that has leveraged TechCred since its inception is Spangler Candy based in Bryan, Ohio. The company has been operational since 1906 and is utilizing TechCred to support employee development and business improvement. "Spangler Candy utilizes TechCred because we feel it is important to develop our employees here," Mosier said. She added that employees who participate in TechCred gain confidence due to acquiring necessary skills and that it provides a sense of pride for Spangler Candy by helping employees achieve their career goals.

Spangler Candy operates out of Northwest Ohio and produces several well-known candy brands including Spangler Candy Canes, Starburst pops, Sweethearts, Circus Peanuts, Dum-Dums, Necco, and Bit-O-Honey.

Husted was adopted and raised in Williams County located in Northwest Ohio. He obtained multiple degrees from the University of Dayton and previously served as vice president at the Dayton-Area Chamber of Commerce before entering public service. His official biography notes his tenure as Ohio Secretary of State and House Speaker. First elected Lt. Governor in 2018 and reelected in 2022, Husted resides with his wife Tina and their three children.
