The Ohio House of Representatives passed House Bill 380 today, which includes the designation of twenty-nine roads and bridges throughout the state. This announcement was made by State Representative Roy Klopfenstein (R-Haviland).
Among the provisions in House Bill 380 is House Bill 431, also sponsored by Klopfenstein. This bill will designate a portion of U.S. Route 127 in Paulding County as the Staff Sergeant Zachary Wobler Memorial Highway. Wobler, originally from Ottawa, Ohio, was killed in action on February 6, 2005, while supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom. He was 24 years old at the time.
"Staff Sergeant Wobler was a natural leader who deeply cared for his fellow soldiers," said Klopfenstein. "Despite being told he needed knee surgery and could return home during his first deployment, he chose to stay and lead his team in Iraq. Designating a portion of the highway adjacent to where he grew up is a special way to honor his service and sacrifice."
Wobler received both the Bronze Star and Purple Heart for his service and is interred at Arlington National Cemetery.
The legislation now moves to the Ohio Senate for consideration.
