State Representative Roy Klopfenstein (R-Haviland) introduced legislation to designate a portion of U.S. Route 127 as the “Staff Sargent Zachary Wobler Memorial Highway.” The bill aims to honor the memory of Staff Sergeant Zachary Wobler, who was killed in action on February 6, 2005, at the age of 24 while supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom.
"Designating a portion of U.S. Route 127 to Staff Sargent Wobler, near his childhood home, is one way we can ensure his ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation will never be forgotten," said Klopfenstein.
Staff Sergeant Zachary Wobler, hailing from Ottawa, Ohio, served in the Army’s 82nd Airborne Division based in Fort Bragg, North Carolina. He was a decorated soldier, being a recipient of the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. Wobler was laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery, a place of honor for many fallen heroes.
The legislation introduced by Representative Klopfenstein is currently awaiting a bill number and committee assignment, marking a significant step towards immortalizing the memory and sacrifice of Staff Sergeant Zachary Wobler.
