Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose spoke against recent findings of the federal government flagging citizens’ financial transactions. The factors for highlighting a transactions included key words associated with supporting President candidate Donald Trump.
“According to the Biden administration, you're an ‘extremist’ who belongs on a list if you support Donald Trump,” LaRose said in a post on X. “The contempt they have for more than half the country is appalling. I'm running for Senate to put an end to this unconstitutional madness.”
Upon learning that the federal government was using terms like “MAGA” and “TRUMP” to flag financial transactions, along with purchases of religious texts and in sporting goods stores, Chairman of the Select Subcommittee on the Weaponization, Jim Jordan (R-OH), sent letters to request additional information and testimony to aid in the oversight of such actions, as the Select Subcommittee looks to protect the rights and privacy of citizens.
LaRose is running in Ohio’s March 19, 2024 Republican primary for U.S. Senate. The winner will challenge Democrat Sherrod Brown, who is running for his fourth term.
His opponents are State Sen. Matt Dolan (R-Chardon) and former auto dealer Bernie Moreno of Westlake.
LaRose represented Summit County in the Ohio State Senate (2011-2018) before being elected Ohio Secretary of State in 2019. He previously served in the U.S. Army, where he was a member of U.S. Special Forces as a Green Beret, and earned a B.S. from the Ohio State University.
An Akron native, LaRose, 44, lives in Columbus with his wife and three daughters.
