State Representative Haraz N. Ghanbari (R-Perrysburg) paid tribute to retiring Department of Higher Education Chancellor Randy Gardner during a recent basketball game at Bowling Green State University. Gardner, who served as the department's 10th chancellor, was recognized by Ghanbari with a resolution from the Ohio House of Representatives. The ceremony took place during halftime in front of one of the largest crowds in Stroh Center history.

"Chancellor Gardner is a public servant in every sense of the word," said Ghanbari. "Whether he was teaching high school students, serving in the legislature or as chancellor, the positive impact he made for the people of Bowling Green and the state of Ohio will be felt for years to come."

Gardner was honored on the court by Ghanbari, along with BGSU President Dr. Rodney K. Rogers and BGSU Athletic Director Derek van der Merwe. As a token of appreciation, Gardner received the President's Medallion and a customized BGSU basketball jersey featuring his last name and the number 33, which represents his years of service in the Ohio Senate and Ohio House of Representatives.

The resolution celebrating Gardner's retirement was sponsored by Ghanbari and Speaker of the House Jason Stephens (R-Kitts Hill). The retirement ceremony marked the end of Gardner's tenure at the end of December.
